Abstract

In general, we advise using the lowest concentration of 0. that will relieve anoxemia. Usually, inhalation of 35^50% 02 will result in maximal saturation of the arterial blood, and this concentration can be inhaled indefinitely without causing 02 toxicity.
Oxygen therapy may be used repeatedly for short periods throughout the day or night for patients who requre 02 but cannot be restricted to an oxygen tank. Although 02 cannot be stored in the body, inhalation for short periods will relieve anoxemia and improve the function of some organs (heart, lung, & kidneys), at least temporarily.
